3 Ways to Follow the Value of Your Home

Every homeowner can follow the value of their home like a pro in 3 easy ways:

Automated Valuation Model or AVM

This tool allows you to get an AVM of your property on a monthly basis.  You'll see how your property value can change month to month depending on sales data.  This tool can also keep you informed on your equity position i.e. how much equity you currently have based on the AVM for your property and your current loan balance.  These two important data points allow you to make informed decisions on what to do with your available equity.  For example, do you use the equity to purchase an investment property, make home improvements, or move up or down to a property that better fits your current and future needs.

Neighborhood Market Report

The second way to follow your home value like a pro is to subscribe to a neighborhood market report.  I invest thousands of dollars on my website to offer this to our clients, neighbors and friends to watch the day-to-day market activity in their neighborhood.  I use it to track Coming Soon, Active, Under Contract and recently Sold properties.  The report is easy to understand.  It includes the number of homes sold, the median sold price and more. This report helps you know what’s happening right now, even before the monthly AVM report comes out.

Local Economy

The 3rd and final way to follow your home value like a pro is knowing the local economy.  Once a month, I'd send you a newsletter with a housing market video that explains how economic movements might be affecting buyer and seller behavior and help you make decisions based on your timeline.  I cover month-over-month median sales prices in Northern Virginia, leading indicators from recent pending sales, interest rates, Federal Reserve discussions, and l how supply and demand affect home prices.
