Historic Town of Occoquan
Historic Occoquan is a quaint little town with over 200 years of history. It sits along the Occoquan River located just off I-95. If you're looking for a quick day trip, consider this town with its unique shops and restaurants. Dine at the Secret Garden Cafe and check out the craft beers and artisan wines at the Bottle Stop Wine Bar, a wine/eatery. Take a relaxing stroll on the riverfront boardwalk and top it off with a pie from Mom's Apple Pie.
Don't miss the free summer concert series in the River Mill Park. Concerts are held on first Friday and third Saturday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A few movie nights beginning at sundown are included. These events are free! Check out their great line-up this summer here. Another annual event not to miss is the 2018 Occoquan Arts and Crafts Shows on June 2 & 3, 2018 and September 29 & 30, 2018 (Saturday 10 am - 6 pm | Sunday 10 am - 5 pm).
The Occoquan National Wildlife Refuge is very close to town, located where the Occoquan River meets the Potomac River. According to the Occoquan Bay website, "Ospreys are one of the most common bird species seen in the refuge during spring and summer. They return in early March to re-form pair bonds and establish breeding territories." Find out more about the wildlife including a variety of birds found here.
Did I mention there's free parking in this town?
