A friend brought up a stargazing event recently, and it sounded really interesting. So I began researching about stargazing in Northern Virginia.
Note: I have not participated in any of the events listed here but their locations appear to be some of the best places for watching stars. I found the following interesting facts:
- Virginia has some of the best stargazing places on the East Coast
- The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) designated four Virginia State Parks as "International Dark Sky Parks": Staunton River State Park (Southern Virginia), James River State Park (Central Virginia), Natural Bridge State Park (Shenandoah Valley), and Sky Meadows State Park (Northern Virginia). “An IDA International Dark Sky Park is a land possessing an exceptional or distinguished quality of starry nights and a nocturnal environment that is specifically protected for its scientific, natural, educational, cultural heritage, and/or public enjoyment." - Source: http://www.darksky.org
